History of Deogarh
In the olden days, 'Rawat', the chief of Deogarh was one of
sixteen umraos (feudal barons), who was entitled to wait upon
the Maharana of Udaipur, the capital of Mewar. These feudal
estates were known as the 'Thikanas' and were sanctioned by
the ruling Maharana to a nobleman either due to blood
relationship or for an act of valour. Deogarh was also the
seat of the Chundawat clan of Sisodia Rajputs. The fort of
Deogarh or the Deogarh Mahal was built in the 1670 AD by Rawat
Dwarka Dasji as a family residence.
